Several people were injured and hospitalized after severe turbulence on a flight that landed at Miami International Airport, according to officials.Few details have been released, but Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told CBS News Miami that "multiple patients" were injured by turbulence.According to Miami International Airport officials, Avianca flight 042 was headed from Medellin, Colombia, to New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport when it needed to be diverted to MIA because of the turbulence around 3:30 a.m. Friday.After the plane landed at MIA, eight people needed to be transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries, MDFR said.CBS News has reached out for more information about the flight and the extent of the passengers' injuries.No other details were available.
