Project Pink helps covers cost of mammogram for uninsured woman

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Aging Untold) — Kathey Dailey visits the Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute regularly for appointments. Stomach pain first brought her to the emergency room in 2023. “By 6 o’clock, an oncologist came in and she said, ‘Have they talked to you?’ And I said, ‘No.’ She says, ‘Well, I’m sorry to let you know you have cancer,’ and I just started crying,” Dailey said. Dailey was diagnosed with uterine cancer. Doctors also urged her to get a mammogram. “I was 59 years old and had never had a mammogram,” Dailey said. “Two days later, the phone call came, and it said, ‘you have breast cancer,’” Dailey said. Dailey is now being treated for stage four metastatic breast cancer. Uninsured and self-employed Dailey was self-employed and did not have health insurance.
