Polk deputies kill parole violation suspect after he grabs handgun, sheriff says

LAKELAND, Fla. (WWSB) - Polk County Sheriff’s deputies shot a killed a man wanted for a parole violation in Lakeland Monday morning, Sheriff Grady Judd said.At a news conference at the scene of the shooting, Judd said Larry Renaldo Riles, 46, was killed by deputies as he reached for a handgun inside his car. “Larry Renaldo Riles today asked to be shot. And we obliged him,” Judd said. Judd said Riles had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation, having failed a drug test. A license plate reader in Lakeland spotted Riles’ vehicle and deputies began searching in that area, near Wabash Avenue and George Jenkins Boulvard. Judd said Riles backed into a parking space in a shopping center to conceal his license tag but deputies spotted him and boxed him in with their patrol cruisers.Riles ignored orders by deputies to get out of his car and he began to move forward, into the deputies’ vehicles.
