MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) - An off-duty Manatee County 911 telecommunicator used a belt as a tourniquet to help an injured man after a crash on Interstate 275, according to Manatee County Government.Alex Quintero was driving home Sunday, Sept. 27, when he saw the crash near mile marker 2, the county said.Officials said a man suffered a severed hand in the crash. Quintero stopped and used a belt to help control the bleeding until first responders arrived.Quintero works as a 911 telecommunicator and Shift Training Officer for Manatee County. In that role, he typically helps callers respond to emergencies from the Emergency Communications Center.This time, he was at the scene.Manatee County EMS and North River Fire District responded, according to the county. The injured man was taken to a hospital. His condition was not released.
