Normally, Disney World worker Ryan Myers’ day job is selling blue milk in Star Wars land — the kind of whimsical job where his customers sometimes talk like a Wookiee to him. But these days, Myers’ duties are drastically different. On leave from Disney, he knocks on strangers’ doors and is eager to hear about their challenges, from rising costs to navigating congested roads. Myers is part of the grassroots efforts happening in one of the state’s bluest areas. Sure, Walt Disney World carries more financial influence in politics. Disney wrote a $100,000 check to Orange County Mayor candidate Stephanie Murphy s political committee. (She ended up losing.) But some of Disney World s rank-and-file members of Unite Here pay with their sweat equity to help elect Democrats, locally and statewide, to advocate for working families.
