Start with your budget and your health history “I think the first thing I would look at is your budget. What can you afford?” Amy O’Rourke, an aging expert, said. “Typically, the Medicare Advantage plans are less expensive. Traditional Medicare, you have a supplemental plan that’s got a higher cost.” O’Rourke said family health history matters just as much as the monthly premium. “The other thing I look at is your family history of chronic diseases. Like do you have Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, then it’s going to be very expensive to manage,” O’Rourke said. Check your doctors and your state’s network
